More Attacks Threatened by Nature
Nature has threatened mankind and itself with still more ‚gruesome, unanticipated attacks’. In an apparition on global television, world tree Yggdrasil said it was way too early for anybody to relax. ‘Just because (hurricane) Katrina and the South Asian Tsunami seem like very recent events you shouldn’t be too sure they wont happen again! Speaking of quakes, I must say I feel a little itchy along my Nazca and South American plates again. But hah – this doesnt mean the citizens of Naples are safe drinking red wine on the slopes of Mount Vesuvio, ever!’
When anxious callers demanded Nature release specific dates of future attacks, Yggdrasil flatly refused. ‘ It’s all about timing and location, right? I mean, come on, what would happen to the surprise? After all, it’s show business. What is in it for you is a choice of quakes, storms, thunderstorms, hail, torrential rains, floods, droughts, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, natural radioactivity and thats about it. Seems like a good deal compared to Hiroshima doesnt it?’
Taking on ominous autumn colorings, Yggdrasil concluded his surprise broadcast: ‘Ok, just to let you know: I have chosen that particularly cynical way of pointing out human frailty and limitations for a reason. All I ask for, is a little more humility in you guys. For you know, after all the sky IS the limit, as is the earth. Nature has been, is and always will be incalculable by nature. Please do also keep in mind that I myself have to answer to higher forces, as the Body of Astronomical Laws and the Cosmic Deity of Random to name just two. You may have noticed, even with your severely limited powers of observation and deduction, that every 200 million years a major asteroid hits earth destroying the bulk of global animal life. Now do you think this is any fun for me?’ Mankind continued watching television after the non-commercial break.
